What is the difference between inflection and derivation?
- An inflection changes the grammatical meaning of a word (gender, tense, number) whereas a derivation changes the meaning and/or its word class.

- Derivations are bound morphemes and therefore they belong to a stem or root.
Compoundings are free morphemes and therefore have meaning on their own.
