What is the difference between a semasiological dictionary and an onomasiological dictionary?
-In a semasiological dictionary you can look up a word you don't know the meaning of.
   e.g. definition of the word 'eddy':

-In an onomasiological dictionary you look up a meaning you don't know a specific word for. 
   e.g. specific word for: A motion in a continued circle.

       rotation, revolution, gyration, whirl, eddy, ...

What is Text Linguistics?

Text linguistics is a certain field of linguistics which concentrates on the structure and development of texts, e.g.:

What is Applied Text Linguistics?
-When a linguist uses his theoretical knowledge about text linguistics he applies it on a specific text.

 

What are the main kinds of information in a dictionary?
- The three main kinds of information in a dictionary are its FORM, STRUCTURE and CONTENT.
Give examples of

FORM information
- all the answers to the questions in my portfolio appear in 'Times New Roman' size '12'.

STRUCTURE information
- the structure of my portfolio is that I first write the question down and the answer follows right afterwards

CONTENT information
- one sentence can have different meanings dependant from the person reading. 'It is freezing outside' could either mean 'It is really cold outside' or 'Shut the window'.

What is the main kind of information which dictionary users are generally interested in?
- dictionary users are generally interested in the CONTENT.
